Junior Research Fellow (JRF) / PhD Position: Field-Scale Utilisation of Industrial Tailings in Flexible Pavements
About this position
Applications are invited for one position of Junior Research Fellow in an industry-sponsored research project at the Department of Civil Engineering, IIT Indore. The project investigates the use of Iron Ore Tailings (IOT) as a sustainable construction material for flexible pavements. It moves from laboratory characterisation to a field-scale, instrumented trial pavement stretch. The work includes: Physical, chemical, mineralogical, geotechnical and environmental characterisation of IOT Mix design of IOT-lime stabilised subgrade and granular IOT base/sub-base layers Large-scale model pavement experiments Construction and monitoring of a 500-metre, three-lane instrumented trial stretch (sensors such as vibrating wire strain gauges, earth pressure cells, TDR, thermocouples, LVDTs and tiltmeters with remote telemetry) Field performance evaluation, mechanistic-empirical model development, life cycle assessment and cost analysis Preparation of design guidelines in IRC format This is a rare opportunity for hands-on, field-level pavement research with a strong industry interface. Outputs include peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations. Selected candidates may be considered for admission to the PhD programme at IIT Indore, subject to institute admission rules and procedures. Apply at: https://phdapply.iiti.ac.in/
